This was a drawing for class. We had three words we drew from a hat that the project had to convey. One of my words was surreal, and although this drawing isn't stylistically surreal, I still find Rush Limbaugh to be a larger than life character (in more way than one.)

As far as the drawing goes, I wanted to keep it loose, yet controlled. Rather than using a dip pen like I usually do, I used a brush to ink the entire thing. It gave me some very interesting lines which I enjoy. It was a bit more difficult to get a likeness since I had a little less control with the brush, but It turned out okay. To add the value, I shaved a little pile of charcoal off a stick, watered it down and used it just like watercolors. It worked out pretty well. I was hoping that it would be easy to erase in the event of a mistake, but that didn't work out as planned. All in all, I think it was a success. At the very least I was able to experiment with a new process.

Fowl John Post 2

Here are the next three pages for this plague of a comic book I've been trying to work on in my spare time. I have noticed some aspects of the process moving faster, but it's still taking a bit of time. More to come soon hopefully.

Digital life drawing!

We started a 6 hour pose in my drawing class today. I decided to go digital with this one. I think I need to get one good finished digital drawing under my belt. This one's on its way, but we'll see if another 3 hours will do the trick.

Cribbage board and lopsided Rush

This is an in progress digital Rush. It's about 2 hours of work, and I think another few hours should finish it up, or at least to the to my satisfaction. For whatever reason, I still haven't been able to get a good likeness of the asshole, so this time I'm doing it digitally and fixing it up until I get a likeness thats up to par.




About a week ago, I spent the afternoon carving a cribbage board. I used to play the game every now and then with my old man, but since I've been at school, I had no cribbage board. So I said to myself, "Self, you should just make a cribbage board." And so I did.

Marc the wood worker?

I got a chance to do a little woodworking last week. My girlfriend Melissa asked me to help her build (or build it while she watched) a plant stand for her wheatgrass, which she's started growing. It was pretty fun, and I haven't had any building projects in a while, so it felt good to be in the wood lab again.

Also I carved a cutesy bear pen for valentines day. It turned out alright, but I could tell it's been a long time since I did any whittling. Sorry about the fuzzy picture.

Right-Wing exaggeration!

Here's a few sketches from drawing class today. I think the one of Rush Limbaugh is my favorite, even though his mouth looks a bit messed up. Other than him, there's a Glen Beck, Papa Bear O'rielly, and lastly Sarah Palin. I missed the likeness on that one, but I like the exaggerations I did a lot better than every drawing I've done of her before.
