More Cartoonage

Another political cartoon. I've been following the economy situation pretty closely as of late, and apparently its showing in my work. Who woulda thunk it.

The U.S. Economy: A Fairy Tale

Just trying my hand at editorial cartooning. I'd say I've got a long way before I develop that kind of style, but in the meantime, its just fun to putz around with it.

Stop.. its hammer time!

This is a painting I posted a while back while I was still working on it. I never got a chance to take a picture of the finished piece as it was in the Furlong Gallery at Stout all summer. Well, I just got it back, and here it is.

Lord of the Rings inks

Lately I've been wanting to try my hand at drawing a MAD Magazine type splash page. Well, I finally put aside some time(or procrastinated school work, I'm not sure which) and started working on this guy. It has been much more of an endeavor than I thought it was going to be. First of all, the drawing is 18"x24", a little more than half the size of an actual MAD splash page. I've never worked that big. I put in 10 characters from LOTR, so there were tons of studies to be drawn. Then came the inking. I didn't time myself, but lets just say it took "several" hours. It was a good learning experience, and I wouldn't mind working this large more often. It was a lot of fun. But now, it's time to do some coloring. I scanned the inks in(it took me three tries with the faulty P.O.S. scanner at the UW-Stout Library totalling close to 45 minutes of work). I had to do it in six pieces. I'm going to paint it with some watercolors, but if it doesnt turn out to good, then I'll just do it in photoshop. Well, back to work....

Alaskin Hokey Mom, Hunter, Smokin' Babe, potential VP

I was just messing around with some more watercolors and did this quick painting of Palin and Mccain. I completely missed the likeness on Mccain. I think I was working just a little bit smaller than I'm used to. Well, thats the excuse I'm sticking with.

Baby Mama

I did this drawing of SNL cast member Amy Poehler. Her face always creeped me out. I think its a combination of her crazy eyes/eye brows, pointy nose, and generally wacked out charecters on the show. Anyway, I did a graphite drawing, then colored it with watercolors and went over that with a little colored pencil to add some more darks and lights.

Mccain

Love him or hate him, I haven't done this much cross hatching in a long time. I pretty much redid the sketch from my last post, but this time about twice the size and in graphite. I hadn't done many drawings with graphite pencils outside of Valleyfair in a while, so it was nice to use them again.

Presidential Hopefuls

Here are sketches of Obama and Mccain. Somehow over the course of this past Presidential race, I have not drawn either McCain or Obama. Not sure how that happened, but I've gotten em out of my system now.

the office

Here's the final "office" drawing all colored in photoshop. I was working on it inbetween classes the last couple days, and finished it this morning. I more or less like how the color turned out, but I might still end up watercoloring the inked drawing too to see if I can get some better results. We'll see how ambitious I get today.

Back to school!

I thought I would try my hand at drawing some of the charecters from the office, which by the way is one of my new favorite shows. Up top are some sketches, followed by the inked drawing. Below that are two watercoloured drawings I did out at valleyfair this summer.
